What We Do
Each poster design on this site is created the same way - I provide a text prompt (a poem, a phrase, an idea) - and a visual artist creates the image. Then we work together. Sometimes the image changes. Sometimes the text changes. What remains is the poster.
How We Do It
Each artist is paid a fee for their artwork that is mutually agreed upon beforehand. Every time a poster is sold half the revenue (after printing costs) goes back to the artist as well.
Why "subjecttension"?
Well…this is a short question with a long answer, but here’s the short version.
We all exist as subjects in relation to different ideas or discourses. For example:
- faith (Christianity, Islam, Hinduism, Buddhism, etc.)
- politics (conservativism, socialism, capitalist realism, etc.)
- identity (ethnic, cultural, gender, language-based, etc.)
When we question the discourses that rule our lives there’s tension – the tension between a subject who is entangled in a discourse and the expectations that idea or discourse places on the subject.
That’s subject-tension. And we all live in it.
Unless you happen to be somebody who believes in a discourse (or faith, or ideology) without question. I don’t know what to say to you then.
